Peachtree Corners has a new work of art — a giant ship’s anchor — installed on the front lawn of United Arab Shipping Company’s new office at Spalding Drive and Peachtree Parkway.

Adding the cast iron anchor to UASC’s office was a project started by the company’s retiring President Anil Vitarana.

“With the merging of all of our U.S. offices in one place, he had the idea of ‘dropping anchor’ in the literal and figurative sense,” explained Gerald Bradley, spokesman for the company.

Bradley said it wouldn’t have been possible without the Georgia Port authority, which was instrumental in moving the 9-1/2 ton anchor from the Savannah port. The new landmark measures 16 feet long by about 10 feet wide and is originally from one of UASC’s A4 container vessels.
