An Amtrak train from Atlanta hit an unoccupied car on the tracks early Sunday in Lowell, N.C.

Train No. 20 on the Crescent route from New Orleans to New York ran into trouble during the Atlanta to Charlotte leg of the trip, hitting a vehicle at 4:48 a.m., Amtrak spokeswoman Christina Leeds said.

No passengers or employees reported injuries, Leeds said. There were 180 passengers on board.

The train was delayed for about an hour and a half at the scene, Leeds told the AJC.

Police are investigating.

Witnesses reported seeing a tow truck leave the scene at the time of the crash, wsoctv.com in Charlotte reported.
