Alpharetta officials will kick off a campaign Nov. 16 against drivers who “block the box” at some key intersections.
City officials said in a news release that blocking the box happens when a motorist enters an intersection before drivers on the other side have made it all the way through. If the traffic signal changes to red, the driver is blocking the intersection, keeping cross-traffic from moving through and hindering pedestrians at crosswalks.
Alpharetta police will monitor key traffic crossings and hand out tickets to violators, who could be tagged with up to three points on their driver’s licenses in addition to the monetary hit. The city said it would introduce the program at Old Milton Parkway and North Point Parkway and at Milton Parkway and Haynes Bridge Road.
