Alpharetta is alerting motorists to traffic signal upgrades at 21 intersections during the month of January that will put the signals in “flash” mode and that will, in some instances, require a police officer on site to direct traffic.

“Motorists should approach the intersections with caution and are reminded that, if a police officer is not directing traffic, a traffic signal flashing red should be treated like a stop sign,” the city said.

Signal upgrades are planned for Westside Parkway at Encore Parkway, Sanctuary Parkway, Old Roswell Road and Colonial Center; and Mansell Road at Westside Parkway, Kingswood Place, Duke Drive, Davis Drive, southbound Ga. 400, northbound Ga. 400, North Point Parkway, Mansell One Drive and Old Alabama Road.

Also, North Point Parkway at Mansell X South, Mansell X Middle, Mansell X North, Encore Parkway, North Point Mall South, North Point Mall North and North Point Court; and Encore at North Point Mall Center East.

The upgrades will “deploy technology that will notify us when vehicle detectors are not working properly” and “enable us to better time signals based on real-time traffic volumes,” the city said.
