The Alpharetta City Council has approved spending more than $10.5 million on a 1.77-mile extension of the Big Creek Greenway.

The Greenway will be extended from Marconi Drive to Union Hill Park, with about a half-mile of the extension to be an elevated concrete trail, according to a staff report to the council.

The council awarded a construction contract valued at roughly $10.1 million to Integrated Construction and Nobility Inc. (ICAN); approved Atkins North America Inc.’s $372,572 proposal to handle construction management, engineering and inspection services; and allocated $100,000 for utility relocations.

“ICAN anticipates being able to mobilize and begin construction by the end of January 2020,” with an anticipated completion of the project “no more than 480 days from the notice to proceed,” staff said.

The Alpharetta portion of the Big Creek Greenway is a concrete trail and linear park that runs eight miles from Mansell Road on the south to Windward Parkway at Marconi on the north. Information: https://bit.ly/2EvDUjD
