The reopening of Rucker Road in Alpharetta will be the starting signal for the construction of two roundabouts on Bethany Road, city officials announced.
Weather permitting, work on the roundabouts at Bethany and Mayfield and Mid Broadwell roads is to begin Aug. 12 – after the reopening of Rucker, which has been closed to through traffic since late May, officials said. The roundabouts will take about a year to complete.
“The intersections at Mayfield and Mid Broadwell see considerable traffic during the morning and evening commute periods, and a high number of vehicles are making left turns at these locations,” said Pete Sewczwicz, Alpharetta director of public works.
The new roundabouts will make left turns easier, he said. They will cost a combined $4 million and be paid for by the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax approved by Fulton County voters outside Atlanta in November 2016. No road closures are planned, but motorists should expect delays and occasional, temporary lane closures.
