Alpharetta residents will have an opportunity to properly get rid of household hazardous waste and paint at a one-day recycling event Saturday, Nov. 17.

The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Alpharetta Public Works Department, 1790 Hembree Road.

Participants must register online in advance; the deadline to do so is Thursday, Nov. 15, at: https://bit.ly/2JVw8QT. Residents must bring the registration confirmation with them to the collection, where technicians will unload their vehicles.

Acceptable items include aerosol (spray) paint cans; latex and oil-based paints and stains and varnishes in their original containers; flammable liquids like gasoline and kerosene; solvents, thinners and mineral spirits; pesticides, herbicides and lawn and garden chemicals; fertilizer; pool chemicals; and items with mercury.

Not accepted: truck and automotive batteries, electronics, fire extinguishers, propane tanks or medical or prescription drugs.
