In separate actions, the city councils of Alpharetta and Roswell have approved seeking federal grants for bulletproof vests for law enforcement officers.

Alpharetta will seek $33,000, while Roswell will request $10,500, from the Bulletproof Vest Partnership of the U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance.

The federal program reimburses local departments up to half the purchase price of new, approved ballistic vests, which currently cost $655 to $750 per set, according to an Alpharetta staff report to its council. Both councils approved matching funds for the grants.
