The Alpharetta City Council has approved seeking $25 million in federal grant monies for two pedestrian projects, and committing the city to spending $5 million in local matching funds.

Alpharetta will send the requests to the Atlanta Regional Commission.

The city seeks $20 million in federal funds for pedestrian improvements along North Point Parkway, including 12-foot-wide sidewalks, landscaping, lighting, signage and crosswalks between Haynes Bridge and Mansell roads; and $5 million for a tunnel under Haynes Bridge to connect the Alpha Loop, according to a staff report to the council.

The grants will require local matching funds of $4 million and $1 million, respectively, staff said.
