The Alpharetta City Council has approved a private school’s request to rezone land so that it can be incorporated into its campus for a high school soccer field.

King’s Ridge Christian School requested the zoning change for 2.03 acres at 13695 Cogburn Road from AG (agriculture) to SU (special use), and also a variance to eliminate the required compensation for removing two trees, according to a staff report to the council.

The council approved the request, with a condition for a 10-foot concrete path or sidewalk to be constructed along Cogburn, requested by the neighboring city of Milton.

“King’s Ridge plans to expand its athletic programs and facilities and has acquired the subject property to add to its campus master plan,” staff said. The soccer field would measure 195 by 360 feet and be served by existing school parking to the north.

“According to the applicant, the site plan has been redesigned several times to limit impacts to trees, and the King’s Ridge Christian School campus exceeds the city’s required tree density,” staff said.
