The Alpharetta City Council has approved an intergovernmental agreement with Forsyth County in which it would contribute $4 million toward the widening of McGinnis Ferry Road.

McGinnis Ferry is the dividing line of North Fulton and Forsyth counties. The project’s anticipated total cost is $36 million.

Of Alpharetta’s $4 million, $2.4 million would be covered by the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, $1.5 million by 2016 general obligation bonds, and $100,000 by capital improvement funds.

McGinnis Ferry is to be widened from one to two lanes in each direction from Sargent Road to Union Hill Road/Ronald Reagan Boulevard, a distance of about 4.6 miles. The portion of the project within Alpharetta starts at the city’s eastern boundary with Johns Creek.

The reconstructed road would have a 20-foot raised median, 16-foot urban shoulder with a 10-foot multi-use path on the north side, and a 12-foot urban shoulder with a 6-foot-wide sidewalk on the south side, according to Forsyth County. Information: https://bit.ly/2HCskaq
