The Alpharetta City Council has awarded a $345,231 master planning contract to an Atlanta architectural and engineering firm for the renovation of Wills Park Pool.

Stevens & Wilkinson will be responsible for design work, construction documents and bidding, and construction administration for the $4 million renovation of the Recreation & Parks Department pool at Wills Park, 1815 Old Milton Parkway.

The pool would have to be closed for construction Aug. 1, 2017 to meet the staff’s goal of having the project completed and the pool open to customers by May 1, 2018, according to a staff report.

Voters approved a bond referendum in May that included funds to renovate the Olympic-sized pool, which hasn’t been updated since it was constructed in 1987. Plans call for the construction of a new competition pool, new leisure pool, three pavilions and other amenities.

In response to public comment at an October open house, the depth of the diving well in the pool was increased from 11.5 to 12.5 feet to accommodate a 3-meter diving board, staff said.
