The Alpharetta and Johns Creek city councils are expanding a pilot program called Parks Without Borders, which is aimed at increasing recreational opportunities for residents of the two cities.

Both bodies this week approved an agreement under which each city will waive steep non-resident fees for residents of the other for participating in youth softball, recreational baseball and lacrosse programs. Only softball was included in the 2014 pilot program.

City officials said the expanded program will kick in for 2016 spring sports program registration and continue through the fall.
