The Alpharetta City Council has approved an agreement creating a joint task force with Johns Creek and Forsyth County to investigate narcotic and vice crimes.

The memorandum of understanding formalizes a relationship involving the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety, Johns Creek Police Department and Forsyth Sheriff’s Office to investigate criminal offenses and share information and intelligence, according to a staff report to the council.

The task force will be governed by a board of directors made up by the chief law enforcement officials of the three agencies, with the district attorneys of Fulton and Forsyth counties given non-voting seats to provide assistance to the board. Alpharetta’s public safety chief will serve a two-year term as the group’s first chairman.

The memorandum also specifies that the member agencies will each contribute one-third of shared costs, and will each receive one-third of seizure and forfeiture awards.
