Alpharetta High students speak out about lawsuit

Two Alpharetta High student leaders spoke out Monday about a lawsuit filed against their school alleging that the school's  former student body president was ousted for a plan to make the prom queen competition inclusive of gay students.

Students Michael Danan and Daniel Furman, represented by attorneys, said they supported the removal of former student body president Reuben Lack because he wasn’t an effective leader, an official told the AJC.

Fulton County Schools officials said last week that Lack was removed from his post for failing to fulfill the duties of his office.

Lack, however, filed a lawsuit alleging that his removal came after he developed a plan to make prom court more gay friendly by allowing same-sex couples to compete.

Alpharetta High students Danan and Furman, both named in the lawsuit, may be considering filing a complaint of their own to protect their reputations. Since the lawsuit, Internet posts have made assumptions about their views.
