Fulton County Commissioners have voted to donate the former Alpharetta branch of the Fulton library system to the city of Alpharetta, along with roughly three acres of land.

The old branch at Canton Street and Mayfield Road was shut down earlier this year, as operations moved to a new and larger branch facility within the Alpharetta City Center development on Park Plaza.

The city had donated about three acres of land to Fulton County for the new site in December of 2013. Shortly after that, the city and county officials began talking about Alpharetta’s gaining control of the old Canton Street property.

Alpharetta city officials plan an open house at 7 p.m. Sept. 21 at Alpharetta City Hall, 2 Park Plaza, to kick off discussions on what use the Canton Street property should be put to.
