Alpharetta is forming a bicycle advocacy group.

The city hopes to plan for safer roadways and trails for all types of cyclists -- recreational, road, commuters and mountain bikers.

Volunteers will have their first organizational meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday at Alpha Bikes, 11770 Haynes Bridge Road.

The goal is to provide feedback to city planners about steps Alpharetta can take to enhance cycling safety and road or trail improvements, according to group organizer Jackie Tyson.

The first meeting will include acceptance of group bylaws and nominations for officers and committee leaders, Tyson said.
