The Alpharetta Planning Commission will hear the first in-depth presentation of a new draft plan for the downtown area at a workshop set for 6:30 p.m. Jan. 14 at Alpharetta City Hall, 2 Park Plaza.

The last downtown plan was formulated in 2003- which gave rise to the 22-acre Alpharetta City Center project that‘s well underway, said Assistant City Administrator James Drinkard. The new document developed through a series of design charrettes and public meetings is aimed at identifying and encouraging areas of development/redevelopment over the next 10-15 years, zeroing in on appropriate uses for given areas, and connecting the pieces of downtown with each other.

The plan considers future land use concepts, open space and storm water and transportation issues.

Drinkard said the workshop is a precursor to the document coming before the planning commission for a public hearing and vote Feb. 5, and a Feb. 23 planned vote by the Alpharetta City Council.
