A section of Alpharetta’s popular Big Creek Greenway trail will close for about two weeks beginning Nov 2. City officials are shutting down the Greenway from a half-mile south of the Marconi Drive trailhead to Webb Bridge Road to make drainage repairs to, and build a small bridge over, a stretch that has had repeated problems with ponding water.

City officials note that while the Greenway as a whole is in a floodplain and has to be closed when heavy rains fall, it’s usually open again in a day or two. By contrast, the stretch just north of Webb Bridge Road sees water sticking around for longer periods even when only a modest amount of rain has fallen, making the stretch unusable.

The city said the remainder of the trail won’t be affected during construction.
