The Georgia Department of Transportation is rolling out a new signal timing plan along both Old Milton Parkway/ Ga. 120 and Main Street/ Ga. 9 in Alpharetta this wee. Officials said drivers may notice changes in signal behavior and traffic patterns as a result.

The deployment follows seven months of GDOT and the city analyzing traffic volumes and patterns. The data was then plugged into the state’s traffic modeling software.

The city’s public works director said traffic engineers will nake tweaks to the changes over the next two weeks, to account for variables the software couldn’t take into account.

In conjunction with the signal work, GDOT is replacing 24 damaged signal-loop detectors at city intersections. The ground-embedded vehicle detectors help govern traffic light changes.
