The Alpharetta City Council has awarded a $5.47 million contract to Sunbelt Builders Inc. to renovate the Wills Park public swimming pool.

Project components include a new competition pool and zero-entry leisure pool, renovated bathhouse, shade canopies, picnic pavilion, water slide, and the full replacement of existing flat roof segments, according to a staff report to the council.

The pool is scheduled to close July 31, with construction beginning Aug. 1 and the renovated facility reopening to the public in early May 2018. Funding for the renovation has been approved as part of the city’s capital budget as well as the parks and transportation bond issue approved by voters in 2016, staff said.

Wills Park pool at 1815 Old Milton Pkwy. was constructed in 1987 and has not been updated since then.
