The Alpharetta City Council has approved a $333,507 contract to continue construction of the Alpha Loop, a trail project connecting downtown with Avalon, the Northwinds area and other community activity centers.

Summit Construction & Development LLC submitted the lowest of five bids for the Alpha Loop Phase A Section 1 project, a continuation of a trail segment previously built as part of the Chelsea Walk subdivision, according to a staff report to the council.

“The project consists of the construction of approximately 623 linear feet of a concrete multi-use trail that will extend from its current end within the Chelsea Walk community south into the Avery at Northwinds property,” staff said.

The terminus is the northern end of the Alpha Loop alignment now being redesigned by Pond & Co., the city’s engineering consultant, to connect with the Atley subdivision, also known as the Haynes Bridge Road Tract, staff said. Completion of the latest phase is expected no more than 90 calendar days from the notice to proceed.
