Alpharetta’s Thompson Street corridor connecting downtown with the Avalon live-work-play development near Ga. 400. is starting on the road to a makeover.
The Alpharetta City Council on Monday night (Oct. 26) approved Thompson Street Investments LLC’s request to rezone roughly 6 acres from R-12 (residential) to DT-LW (downtown live-work). Developer E. A. Holmes plans to build 40 attached single-family townhomes which would sell in the upper $400,000 to $500,000 price range.
City officials said the project is significant because it’s only the second impacting Thompson and the first fronting on the road itself. Planners focused on the street as a development priority in a new downtown master plan approved earlier this year. They want to create a walkable primarily-residential corridor hewing to certain architectural and design standards with some small business and professional offices folded in.
The city’s contracted with a town architect who will vet future proposals for the just-over half mile stretch parallel to Old Milton Parkway.
