A possible alligator sighting in Peachtree City’s Lake McIntosh has prompted further searches and words of warning from Fayette County.

The county received a 911 call around 5:45 p.m. Monday after a man reported seeing what he originally thought was a floating log attack a duck and splash the water with its tail. The lake was closed until Tuesday morning while representatives from the Marshal’s Office and the Department of Natural Resources searched the lake but found nothing.

Additional searches are planned, and officials are reminding boaters and other visitors to remain alert. Swimming or other bodily contact with water is prohibited in Lake McIntosh and all other county reservoirs.
