Six alleged gang members from Atlanta and Gwinnett and DeKalb counties were indicted on federal charges Tuesday, including murder and racketeering.

U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said the suspects, all but one in custody, are members of the violent Vatos Locos street gang.

"These six defendants are charged with a frightening level of violent crime, including shootings and stabbings that killed three people in public places," Quillian said.

Four are accused of a racketeering conspiracy that includes three homicides, two attempted murders, and several other shootings. All six are charged with committing a violent crime in furtherance of racketeering activities. Four are also charged with gun crimes.

The suspects include four from Atlanta -- Eduardo Garibo, 28; Mario Mondragon-Cortes, 21;  Rogelio Lozano-Vasquez, 21,  and Gilberto Hernandez-Cabrera, 22 -- and Angel Garibo, 25, of Gwinnett and Jessie Navarette-Maya, 20, of DeKalb. Navarette-Maya remains at large.

The charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison with the possibility of the death penalty, and a fine of up to $250,000, authorities said.
