Employees at five businesses in Spalding County face charges of allegedly selling alcoholic beverages to minors, the Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

Sheriff Wendell Beam said 25 businesses were inspected on Friday during a sweep, and four arrests were made. Those taken into custody were released on bond. A fifth arrest was pending, the sheriff said.

It is against the law in Georgia to sell alcoholic beverages to a person under 21.

The suspects and their businesses include Suryant Muljibhal Patel, 47, of Lilburn, who works at Petro Station, 1639 N. Hill St.; Ho Lee, 46, of Lawrenceville, Northside Package 1303 N. Hill St.; Lillian Melinda Evans, 31, of Griffin, Coles Corner, 7051 Newnan Road; and Chitrang Naginbai Patel, 25, of Griffin, Shell Station 1701 Williamson Road.

Beam said a fifth arrest was pending for alleged sales at the Super Speed Zone, 678 N. Expressway.

Authorities say the cases also have been referred to the city and county commission for review of the businesses’ operating licenses.
