The management of Allatoona Lake has announced eight, one-day, safe boating classes in the coming months in Acworth. The “Boat America” course is mandatory for anyone born after Jan. 1, 1998, to legally operate a boat or personal watercraft in Georgia.

"Individuals who successfully complete the program and exam meet the state of Georgia boating certification requirements and are awarded certificates and wallet cards," according to an announcement posted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary at Allatoona will cover topics including Know Your Boat, Before You Get Underway, Navigating the Waterways, Operating Your Vessel Safety, Legal Requirements and Boating Emergencies.

Classes meet from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 8, March 7, April 11, May 2, June 6, July 11, Aug. 8 and Sept. 12 at the Roberts School Community and Education Center, 4681 School St., Acworth.
