Citing an "overwhelming response," organizers of the Great Lake Allatoona Clean Up have put out a call for boat owners to ferry volunteers from marinas to shoreline areas to pick up trash. Boats are needed from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 5, according to a Facebook posting.

“You will not be hauling trash in your boat,” the posting says. “The trash will be left on the shoreline and picked up by another crew the following week.”

Boat owners/captains must be at least 18 year old and have a functioning mobile phone, and their vessel must meet all Georgia Department of Natural Resources requirements including life jackets for every person on board, according to the boat owners' registration page.

Skippers are asked to state their preferred section of the lake when registering. Arrival times will be between 8:30 and 9 a.m., mostly at marinas and some day use area boat ramps. Information, and to register: https://bit.ly/2lNJyI7
