Mayfield Road in Alpharetta was going to be closed for much of the summer.
But on Monday, Alpharetta’s city council made a move that should chop 21 days off its original expected completion date of Aug. 5.
The council gave the go-ahead to contractors to work an extra two hours per-day, Monday through Saturday. Work on the road should now be complete by July 14.

The city said it typically doesn’t allow road work to go for 12 hours per day because of the impact noise might have on people near the construction site.
But many residents who lived within 2,500 feet of the construction site supported giving workers the extra work time in exchange for having the road open sooner. Work on Mayfield Road will continue from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Work on Mayfield Road began May 29. Crews are working on it and Rucker Road to repair and replace bridges and culverts.
Rucker Road will remain closed until Aug. 5 and will have to be closed again next summer for additional work, the city said.
