The Acworth Board of Aldermen voted 5-0 Thursday to change ordinances regarding precious metals dealers and pawn shop owners.

Acworth Police Chief Wayne Dennard told the AJC the changes will allow online information entry by both the dealers and owners and by the police officers.

The information goes to a cloud-based service so that “we can keep a closer watch on what’s being pawned,” he said.

Until now, all of these transactions had to be entered by hand - both by the officers and by the dealers and owners, Dennard said.

Also, potential employees of pawn shops must pass a criminal background check, be registered and receive a permit, he added.
