The Acworth Police Department issued a warning Wednesday, July 29, about a telephone and email scam.

A victim received several emails from a business by the name of E Street Loans who guaranteed $5,000 in an unsecured loan — provided the victim had an active bank account.

The process was reported started by an Alex Rogers who told the victim to go to Walmart, purchase a prepaid debit card and call him back with the reference number.

Once the account was verified, the $5,000 would be sent.

The victim followed the instructions, but his account was withdrawn until it reached $0.

Police warn:

  • Do not give sensitive information to an alleged business that you have not contacted by email or over the phone.
  • Do not be afraid to ask questions of the person on the other end such as "Where are you located?"
  • Ask for a physical address.
  • Check for grammar and punctuation.
  • Only do business with licensed companies.
  • Check your bank account and credit card statements often.
