Acworth man killed crossing Cherokee road
A pedestrian who was struck and killed Friday night by a vehicle in Cherokee County was identified Saturday as an Acworth man.
The incident happened on Ga. 92 west of Wade Green Road around 9:30 p.m. The victim was identifed as Herrera Mendez, 52.
Mendez was crossing the highway in a dimly lit area and not using a crosswalk when he was hit by a Nissan SUV traveling westbound on Ga. 92, Cherokee Sheriff's spokesman Lt. Jay Baker said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Because there was no indication that the driver was speeding or impaired, it does not appear that any charges will be filed, Baker said.
