A man accused of child molestation shot himself in the head early Wednesday, hours before his court arraignment.
Michael Todd Matthews, 47, was found dead on the ground outside his Corinth Road home in Newnan about 5 a.m. Wednesday, said Major Jimmy Yarbrough with the Coweta County Sheriff's Office.
Matthews had been scheduled to appear in Coweta County Superior Court on Wednesday for his arraignment on a charge of child molestation, according to court records. He had been indicted last week following his November arrest, police said.
Matthews also was facing three charges of criminal sexual misconduct in Michigan at the time of his death, according to police.
