As a way for Cobb County students to attend a school they aren’t zoned for, the district has announced there will be 5,800 transfer seats for the 2018-2019 school year.

The district said Wednesday it is accepting school choice transfer applications until Feb. 28.

Parents are not required to say why they want to transfer their child to a different school, the district said, but parents do have to provide their own transportation if a child does transfer.

And remember that students who are already enrolled in the program are not required to reapply every year; they only have to reapply when advancing school levels.

The application posted online said parents may request up to three schools.

It goes on to say that if there are more applications than spots, the district will hold a random lottery. Priority goes to placing fifth and eighth graders who applied for a transfer within the same feeder pattern of the school they are currently attending, and then all other individual students/family groups.

The application explains how the second and third rounds work in addition to other details of the process.

If approved, the parent or guardian has to contact the new school by May 1 to accept or decline. If accepting, they have to submit a transfer acceptance form by May 25.

You can find a breakdown of how many spaces are available at each school posted online. If a school isn't listed, there are no spots.
