The way’s been cleared for Ga. 400 widening work to begin in Forsyth County this fall, now that the Georgia Department of Transportation has formally awarded a $47.5 million contract to the team of C.W. Matthews Contracting/Infrastructure Consulting and Engineering.

The contractor will break ground for the improvements by Nov.2-one year after Forsyth County voters approved the project as part of a transportation bond referendum.

The work will widen Ga. 400 by one lane in each direction from McFarland Parkway to at least Bald Ridge Marina Road, possibly going as far north as Ga. 369. Four bridges will also be widened.
