Expect overnight (9 p.m. to 5 a.m.) road closures this week on Ga. 400 in Forsyth County as soil samples are gathered preparatory to planned widening of the freeway.

GDOT officials said that Tuesday night Aug. 18, the left lane and shoulder of Ga. 400 northbound will close at the Big Creek Bridge. The same closure will happen southbound Wednesday night. Thursday night crews will close the left lane and shoulder northbound at the Sawnee Creek Bridge, then the work will move to the southbound side after midnight.

Design work for the project is underway now, and construction is expected to start later this year on the expansion of 400 to three lanes in each direction from McFarland Road to Ga. 369. Funding for the $47.4 million project is coming from a Forsyth County transportation bond issue.
