A rezoning proposal before the Gwinnett County planning commission would pave the way for a 250-home "open space conservation" subdivsion near Loganville.

The development is being pitched for nearly 93 acres near the intersection of Hoke O'Kelly Mill Road and Loganville Highway, land that the applicant, Jeff Henson, said his family has owned since 1958.

"The intent of the zoning proposal is to provide a safe, walkable and aesthetically pleasing single-family community with amenities and passive areas," Henson wrote in his letter to the planning commission. "We wish to preserve and protect a large portion of the natural environment, in keeping many of the large hardwood trees within the open space of the community."

The project would build 250 homes on lots measuring about one-third of an acre, and there would be a mixture of one-, two- and three-story homes.

About 35 percent of the entire property would remain "open space," Henson wrote.

The development is just one of several scheduled to be addressed at the planning commission's July 5 meeting. Peruse the full agenda here or explore the interactive map below.
