There was rarely a dull day in the life of Trish Doub. Her friends say she was constantly on the move, and always trying to get them to go along for the ride.
“She didn’t waste a day of her life,” said Leslie Lowe, a good friend. “She packed in as much as she could to every day.”
Doub’s interests included aeronautics, motorcycles and a variety of sports. Her competitive nature made for a great golf game, Lowe said.
Patricia Doub, called Trish by most, of Duluth, died May 19 from complications of cancer. She was 49. A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. June 22 at Oakhurst Baptist Church, Decatur. Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A native of Winston Salem, N.C., Doub didn’t have it easy as a child, longtime friend Jan Bryant said. She wanted to be a physician, but trying to juggle three jobs and college was a seemingly impossible task, Bryant said. Though Doub didn’t complete her studies at that time, she never lost her desire to earn a college degree. She continued to work, often holding down multiple jobs, including 28 years in telecommunications and high-tech consulting, friends said.
An avid golfer, Doub competed in women’s and men’s amateur golf tournaments. She was also a motorcycle enthusiast. She taught motorcycle safety classes for the Georgia Department of Public Safety for ten years and she volunteered in the 1996 Summer Olympics as a motorcycle torch-run escort rider, and as a courier between venues.
Doub’s love of planes and flying led her to want to become a flight instructor. In 1998 she earned her commercial flight instructor pilot’s license, Bryant said. In 2009 she achieved her goal of earning a college degree when she graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, which has classes in Atlanta.
“She was so proud, and she should have been,” Bryant said. “She didn’t have an easy childhood, but she also knew her past made her who she was. And she was proud of who she was.”
Doub is survived by her brother, Gary W. Doub of Winston Salem, N.C.
