Due to popular demand, two more training sessions on Georgia’s new immigration enforcement law have been scheduled for city and county officials in the coming weeks.
The Association County Commissioners of Georgia and the Georgia Municipal Association are hosting one session from 9:30 a.m. to noon Oct. 26 in the Luck Flanders Gambrell Center Auditorium at East Georgia College, 131 College Circle in Swainsboro.
The other session is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. to noon Nov. 10 in the Community Room of the Henry County Administration Building, 140 Henry Parkway in McDonough.
Because of limited space, officials seeking to attend must register with the ACCG or GMA. Those organizations hosted similar events in Gainesville and Tifton last month.
Parts of Georgia's new immigration law are tied up in federal court, but other provisions took effect July 1, including some aimed directly at state and local government officials. ACCG and GMA officials say parts of the law are unclear, and they are seeking legal advice from the state attorney general’s office.
