Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond won the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate, beating his challenger R.J. Hadley by a comfortable margin. Thurmond, 57, will face Sen. Johnny Isakson this fall and will need to get on his fund-raising bandwagon soon. At the end of June, Isakson reported a campaign war chest of nearly $5 million, more than 44 times what Thurmond and Hadley had combined, federal records show.  If Thurmond beats Isakson, he will be the first African-American elected to the U.S. Senate from Georgia since Reconstruction.
