These photos, taken in either 1899 or 1900, depict life in Atlanta's African-American community and that from around Georgia. Atlanta photographer Thomas Askew shot the pictures, which were compiled for the 1900 Paris Exposition. The pictures, collected by African-American historian and civil rights activist W.E.B. DuBois, are now part of the Prints & Photographs collection at the Library of Congress. In this photo, nine young women pose in front of an Atlanta University building.
