A suspect in the double homicide of two teens  last month near a Riverdale parking lot near Walmart is in custody, authorities said Tuesday.

Deanthony Joseph Ealey turned himself into the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday. His surrender came just hours after authorities identified the 23-year-old as the suspected gunman in the Jan 13 shooting of India Aaliyah Royal, 18, and Cameron Woods, 19. The shooting occurred in the parking lot near Walmart at Ga. Hwy 85.

On Monday, a Riverdale Police investigator obtained a warrant on Ealey for two counts of malice murder.

Police say Ealey got into the rear passenger seat of a Malibu occupied by Royal and Woods, a student at Jonesboro High School. Within minutes, Ealey shot and killed the teens, police said.

The teens are the eighth and ninth young people between the ages of 11 and 19 to die by gun violence in Clayton County since October.
