South Fulton bill gets hearing Wednesday

March 3, 2015

A bill that would allow residents of unincorporated South Fulton County to form a new city will get its first hearing in the General Assembly Wednesday.

Senate Bill 140, sponsored by Sen. Donzella James, D-Atlanta, is on the agenda for the State and Local Government Operations Committee meeting at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Mezzanine of the Capitol.

The bill calls for a November vote on the new city. If residents approve it, they would elect a new mayor and city council during the 2016 presidential preference primary.

A similar bill, House Bill 165, so far has not received a hearing.
