Smyrna Councilman Derek Norton and local business owner Ryan Campbell appear headed for a runoff in the mayoral race.

The runoff is scheduled for Dec. 3.

The field was narrowed from five candidates competing to replace longtime Mayor Max Bacon, who is retiring after more than 30 years.

Bacon was first elected as mayor in 1985, following his father Arthur T. Bacon who served as mayor until he died in 1985.
