School bus tickets handed out in DeKalb

Drivers who don’t stop for DeKalb County school buses have been getting pulled over and ticketed.

School bus violations were leading the list of traffic offenses cited by the DeKalb Sheriff’s Office through the first three weeks of the school year, with 75 tickets handed out.

“It is apparent that people are blatantly disregarding how their behavior behind the wheel threatens the safety our of children and others who may be with them,” said Sheriff Jeff Mann.

Georgia law requires that vehicles approaching a stopped school bus must also stop until it’s safe to proceed. The law applies to all streets in which there is no permanent raised median.
