Sandy Springs has hired a new community development director to oversee its planning and building efforts.

Michelle M. Alexander also will oversee the city’s environmental, redevelopment and code enforcement operations. She previously was a consultant to local governments and has helped draft comprehensive plans for the cities of Peachtree Corners, Roswell, Dunwoody and Norcross. She also has worked with other metro Atlanta cities and was development director in the City of Chamblee.

Alexander has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin and Friedrich Wilhelm University in Germany. She has a master’s degree in development studies from Cornell University and has completed work toward a doctoral degree at Cornell.
