Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed says the city is poised to move quickly on a deal to reshape Turner Field once the Braves give notice of an exit date, a plan that he says won’t need approval from the Atlanta City Council or the Fulton County Commission.

In an brief interview this week, Reed said that the Atlanta Fulton County Recreation Authority can alone execute the sale of Turner Field, and that it won’t require a public bidding process or sign-off from local legislative bodies.

But some, like Fulton County Chairman John Eaves, disagree.

Citing a 2013 opinion by the Fulton County Attorney’s Office, which states the county has a one-third interest in the property, Eaves is adamant that the commission must have a vote in any Turner Field deal.

“If it doesn’t meet our expectations, we will not approve it,” he said.
