A special election in the city of Clarkston might be canceled because only one candidate signed up to run.

Jamie Carroll, an attorney who has lived in Clarkston for five years, was the sole candidate who qualified last week for a vacancy on the City Council.

"I want to run for City Council to help the city grow and attract more businesses for the downtown area," Carroll said Tuesday.

Georgia law allows for the special election to be called off when there’s only one candidate. The election would still be held March 21 if a write-in candidate qualifies by Monday.

Carroll, who has served on the city's Planning & Zoning Board, would replace Councilman Robert Hogan, who resigned effective Nov. 1 because he's moving out of the city.
