A Gwinnett planning commissioner told residents unhappy with a proposed development near the Yellow River to see if county commissioners would buy the property for a park.

It wasn’t in the cards, and commissioners instead agreed to allow nearly 200 homes on the land.

Residents were frustrated with the decision, which they said would put the houses at risk for flooding.
