Senior citizens and government officials are celebrating the grand opening of The View, which provides 80 apartment homes for mixed-income independent seniors in the city of Stone Mountain.

The View’s grand opening was Wednesday after construction finished last fall.

The View is a three-story development on the former location of the DeKalb County Children’s Shelter, which was no longer being used.

Ninety-four percent of units are considered affordable housing and are reserved for residents with less than 60 percent of the area median income. The rest of units will be available at market rates.

The Housing Authority of DeKalb County served as the lead co-developer on the project, along with the Beverly J. Searles Foundation.
